HSTP training at Bhopal
1st to 10th June, 2003
for Central School and Voluntary teachers

Dear friends,

Sorry for the fact that we are getting back to you after a long delay. October 2003 onwards we were busy reorienting our activities according to changed field situation after the state government closed down HSTP and the Social Science Programmes in August 2002.

We will be sending a detailed letter/mail about all that transpired during the last six months, but this letter is to specifically inform you about the trainings to be held early next month. The details are as follows:

1.       Bhopal region of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan comprises of about 60 central schools mostly in Central and Western Madhya Pradesh. They have indicated a desire to follow an activity/discovery based methodology in the middle schools and have asked Eklavya to hold two 10-day trainings during the next academic session for class-6 teachers. The first one will be held between 1st and 10th of June in which we will be focusing on new class-6 NCERT textbook. It is planned that the overlapping chapters will be done as in Bal Vaigyanik and we will also try to convert the others in the same methodology.

2.       A number of HSTP teachers told us that they are finding the new SCERT textbook difficult to comprehend and transact with students. Over the last few months we took up a few chapters with groups of teachers who were keen to understand the concepts and to plan how these can be made meaningful for students.

Second training would be held for all those HSTP (and non-HSTP) teachers between 3rd and 10th of June at the same venue. We will be focusing on those chapters/concepts which teachers are finding difficult/new. These teachers would be attending the training voluntarily i.e. without any kind of government directive.

3.       Social Science Group of Eklavya has been undertaking such trainings with voluntary teachers over past couple of years. In the same sequence another training for all those teachers who have been part of this process (and some new) would be held simultaneously.

It is expected that in all there would be about 200 teachers spread over five sections and large enough resource group to handle the training.

We could not invite you earlier as the details have been finalised very recently, but do let us know if you can make it even at this short a notice. Also do let us know if you would like to have any other details.

With warm regards,

Kamal, Shobha, Kaluram, Pramod, Javed, Kamal Kishore, Gopal, Rajesh, and others
